I have now come to the conclusion that AI and humor just don’t match. I had hoped it would, since I like to draw quick sketches and then generate a finished product with AI. But AI somehow kills the funny part. At least it does for me. AI creates technically stunning images. If you didn’t know it was AI, you would probably think, “Wow, what an amazing artist!” In fact, some artists who are masters in their field now get accused of using AI to generate their images—which is a bit tragic. I would be very disappointed if it were me, spending years perfecting my craft and then being accused of faking it with AI.
I have now seen a lot of AI-generated images, and I realized that there’s something missing. I guess it is the underlying message. I doubt MAD Magazine would have used AI, or the artist behind the St. Trinian’s series; Ronald Searle. If AI were used, it would probably have killed that humorous touch they had in their drawings. But I might be wrong. Thus far, I haven’t seen anything created by AI that can compare to those artists I just mentioned. There is something missing. I guess it’s the humorous touch, which is hard to explain; it’s just funny.
