Modern problems for writers

Being creative

Modern day problems being a writer.
I believe one of the biggest problems facing writers today is the overreliance on social media and digital technology. Now, hear me out. If you spend the majority of your time in front of a screen, reading and consuming content online, you are not gaining the necessary life experiences to fuel your writing.
Put it another way – you need to go out there and live, do stuff, and challenge yourself mentally and physically. Talk to people from different backgrounds, listen to their stories, and immerse yourself in the world around you. Take a job that doesn’t involve sitting in front of a computer all day, or even consider traveling if you have the means to do so. If finances are tight, simply take long walks and observe the world outside your immediate surroundings.
I do believe that sitting in front of a computer all day can become a catch-22 situation for writers. You need something to write about, but if you don’t actively engage with the world and accumulate real-life experiences, you’ll have very little to draw from. Your writing may become stale, lacking the authenticity and depth that comes from firsthand encounters and personal growth.
The key is to strike a balance between digital consumption and physical, embodied experiences. Spend time offline, immersing yourself in the richness of the world, and then bring those insights and inspirations back to your writing. This can help you develop a more nuanced, compelling, and authentic voice as a writer.
